Todd Boehly was born in the United States on September 20, 1976. Boehly, whose grandparents immigrated from Germany, graduated in 1991 from Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland. He competed on the school’s wrestling squad, which won the I.A.C. championship in 1990 and 1991. In Boehly’s honor, Landon renamed its facility the Boehly Family Wrestling Room in 2014.

The College of William & Mary awarded Boehly a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance in 1996. In addition, he attended the London School of Economics.

Boehly began his career by working at Credit Suisse First Boston and J.H. Whitney & Company. In addition to taking over the asset management division and serving as president of Guggenheim Partners, he founded the business’ credit investing branch in 2001.

Boehly handled a deal that Time Warner Cable and the Major League Baseball franchise Los Angeles Dodgers made in early 2013 to launch SportsNet LA, a local network that will broadcast all Dodgers games as well as content relevant to the organization.

Boehly is a part owner of both the Los Angeles Sparks and the Los Angeles Dodgers, owning 20% of each team. He is a shareholder in the esports league Cloud9 and the fantasy sports firm DraftKings.

Along with Mark Walter, Hansjörg Wyss, and Clearlake Capital, he made a purchase offer to Abramovich in March 2022 after the Russian invasion of Ukraine prompted the Russian businessman to declare his intention to sell the club. Chelsea announced the application had been accepted and will be finalized by the end of the month on May 6, 2022.

Because Abramovich is a citizen of Portugal, the UK, the Portuguese government, the Premier League, and the European Union all authorized the proposal.
