Entrepreneur, speaker, writer, ex-stockbroker, and financial felon Jordan Belfort is a citizen of the United States.

In relation to stock market manipulation and operating a boiler room as part of a penny stock scam, he entered a plea of guilty to fraud and related offences in 1999.

As part of a deal, Belfort was sentenced to 22 months in prison in exchange for testifying against numerous associates and employees who participated in his fraud operation.

Belfort and his close buddy Elliot Loewenstern made $20,000 between finishing high school and enrolling in college by selling Italian ice to tourists at a nearby beach from plastic coolers.

After finishing at American University, Belfort received a biology degree. Belfort enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry with the intention of paying for dental school using the money he made working with Loewenstern.

He claims that he departed after hearing these words from the school’s dean on his first day: “The peak of dentistry is gone. You’re in the wrong place if your only motivation for being here is to make a lot of money.”

On Long Island, New York, Belfort started his career as a door-to-door business selling meat and seafood. In interviews and his memoirs, he asserts that the venture was initially successful.

He says he expanded his meat-selling company to hire numerous people and sell 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) of beef and fish every week.

The business ultimately failed, as he filed for bankruptcy at 25.

He claims that a family friend assisted him in landing a position at L.F. Rothschild as a trainee stockbroker in his memoirs and interviews.

Belfort claims he was fired as a result of the company’s financial struggles following the 1987 Black Monday stock market crisis.

At the moment, Belfort is a notorious public figure who published two autobiographies. The first, The Wolf of Wall Street, and the second, Way of the Wolf, the former of which was made into a successful movie.

Belfort operates a motivational speaking company and keeps making money off of his experiences.
